Whats in Your Backyard?

Scarborough Biodiversity Action Group have had a pleasing response from Scarborough residents to a home and garden wildlife survey this autumn. Two hundred householders in the Borough filled in the online survey or returned questionnaires printed in the local newspaper to report sparrows, frogs and hedgehogs etc. The results contributed to the Local Biodiversity Action Plan and are being analysed by Scarborough Borough Council. The purpose of the survey was to highlight 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity and to help form a picture of the everyday wildlife using homes and back gardens in Scarborough area.

For more information about the garden wildlife survey or getting involved with the Biodiversity Action Group ask for Tom Normandale on 01723 374079.  Queries about legislation relating to bats , wild birds or other protected species can be directed to Countryside Officer Alan Tomlinson on the same number.
