The event, from 12-2pm at the Foxhound Inn, Flixton, organised by the Cayton and Flixton Carrs Wetland Project will include talks on recent archaeological work, restoring habitats to benefit nesting wading birds and Stewardship funding opportunities through HLS.
Scarborough Borough Council's Wetland Project Officer, Tim Burkinshaw, is keen to hear from land managers interested in Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) opportunities in the eastern Vale of Pickering. Tim can be contacted on 01723 374079, either to attend the meeting or for an informal chat.
The Wetland Project received a boost in 2009 when the Partnership signed an agreement to extend the project until August 2011 and to extend the geographical reach all the way along the Hertford Vale Carrs, from Muston Bottoms to Sherburn.
The multi-agency Project funds the Project Officer to offer advice and support to farmers along the Hertford floodplain, to help them secure sought-after HLS agreements with Natural England. HLS is an incentive scheme for the most committed land managers looking to boost the conservation value of their farms. In 2010 Tim is focussing on extending support to farmers all the way from Muston to Sherburn with low lying land along the floodplain which they may be interested in managing to benefit wildlife or archaeology. Enquiries about HLS in this area can be made via Tim Burkinshaw 01723 374079 or directly to Natural England advisor, Jackie Roberts on 0300 060 1908.
